Guest Blog Post: How to Layer by Kellie B

1:32 PM

At Evans we love getting style tips and fashion advice from some of our favourite fashion bloggers. This week we’ve got some fabulous outfit ideas and a guide to Autumn/Winter layering from Kellie B from Fashion Insider.

Hello! It’s Kellie B from Fatshion Insider. Autumn is fast approaching and although the weather is changing, you don’t have to pack away all of your favourite summer pieces just yet. As far as I’m concerned, the best thing about autumn is being able to layer fabulous pieces in order to create a really cool pulled together look.   I love mixing and matching both textures and patterns so below are a few easy ways to take summer pieces into autumn.

Floral Summer Dress + A Little Leather = Perfect Autumn Outfit!

I chose these looks because I love mixing sweet feminine florals with leather and edgy shoes! Tie up boots were huge last autumn and are still a great way to add a little tough girl chic to an otherwise frilly outfit. And if you only buy one item for autumn, make it a leather jacket. An autumn wardrobe must!

Top Row (L-R) Jacket, Dress, Sandals

Bottom Row (L-R) Biker Jacket, Dress, Boots

Checks and stripes = Great for the weekend!

So here’s where things can get really fun. I’m obsessed with stripes and a great stripe tee-shirt can be worn a hundred different ways. The first look is a great weekend outfit layering the checked button down over the stripe tee and motor cycle jacket has a very easy LA look, I love it. The bandage skirt keeps looks great and the brown boots  –   just plain cool.

Top to Bottom: Biker Jacket, Stripe T-shirt, Check Shirt, Brown Boots, Black Skirt

When it comes to jewellery  -  just pile it on!

This one’s pretty easy  -  layer necklaces like these plastic link pieces in complementary colours then add one piece that’s different but adds interest like gold chains with a knot. When layering necklaces just remember they should all be different lengths so they sit nicely on top of each other. I do this all of the time and people will say ‘Oh I love your necklace’ and I usually respond ‘Thanks, I’m wearing 5!’.

Left to Right: Green Necklace, Gold Necklace, Red Necklace

Thanks for the great post, Kellie!

What do you think of Kellie’s post? Would you like to guest blog for Evans? Let us know.

3 ways to wear the Blue Casual Twill Duffle Coat by Alissa

12:20 PM

It’s Alissa from from Stylish Curves again! I love it when fall comes around because that means it’s time for coat season. When Evans sent me this super cute toggle coat I couldn’t wait to wear it. It’s still 90 degrees here in NYC, but having the jacket now allowed me to play around with some outfit ideas in preparation for the cool fall weather.

Below are 3 ways I will be wearing this toggle coat.

Alissa bloggerAlissa bloggerAlissa blogger

Look 1:

For the first look, I chose to wear the coat with one of my favourite floral dresses. I paired it with burgundy tights and camel coloured studded ankle boots for what I would call a girlie, slightly quirky look. Wearing the coat with this spring like dress is perfect for those early fall days.

Look 2:

My second look is for those days when it’s extra chilly. I threw my faux fur vest over the coat as a layering piece. Most people just put layers on under the coat and never really think about layering over their coat. I think fur vests are a great way to give your jackets a new energized look. Since I layered on top, I kept things simple with a turtleneck, straight jeans, and a pair of blush coloured suede heels.  I would call this my downtown NYC celebrity look. In New York, you always see celebrities with their oversized shades on, a fur, and super high heels. This is my plus size girl interpretation!

Look 3:

The third look is what I would call a little preppy. It reminds me of back to school. For this look I layered a crisp white collar shirt under a bright yellow cardigan complete with my camel studded ankle boots for a little flair. One of things I like about this coat is the colour. It’s not your basic black or one of your blindingly bright colours. It’s a nice shade of light blue which means it looks great with a variety of pastel colours like yellow.

3 ways to wear the Animal Print Shirt by Alissa

4:20 PM

I’m Alissa from Stylish Curves and some may consider me a leopard print-a-holic!  Whenever I see an item in that print it’s very hard for me to pass it up. When I received this leopard print sleeveless top from Evans I was so excited because out of all the leopard print tops I own, I don’t have one in the form of a shirt. As I was thinking about which three ways to wear this top I wanted to make sure that I was staying true to my everyday life.

Sometimes as a blogger you want to get extra creative and sometimes certain looks are not realistic to wear everyday on the streets. After I thought about the myriad of ways to wear this top I came up with these three looks that represented the three areas of my life that I need to always look great!

Look 1: A day at the office

The first look is my ‘at the office look’.  I try to make an effort to look young and sophisticated in a sea of bland business suits like I see on other women. This leopard print shirt was a perfect pairing with my pencil skirt. I think it has a sophisticated edge.

Look 2: Lunch with friends

The second look is what I would call my casual daytime look, perfect for meeting friends for lunch.  I also like the long and lean look that the tunic gives with my white fitted jeans. It’s like I grew 2 inches taller!

Look 3: Time to party

For my third look, I wanted to show you how I would wear this shirt for a night out with the girls!  Pairing the shirt with these shorts allowed me to show off an understated chic look.

Italian Summer fashion by Marged

1:58 PM

My name is Marged, and I am the blogger behind the plus size fashion blog La Diva delle Curve . I am a half Italian and a half British and live in Italy and, as all Italians, have a weekness for style and fashion!

My blog was meant to be in Italian as it is one of the few plus size fashion blogs in Italy, but I have decided to make it a bilingual resource adding English as many of the places that I shop are in the UK.

I love shopping at Evans because I love the stylish and flattering designs. I recieve great feedback from my readers about the outfits I wear and many thank me for showing them styles that are a bit different!

For most Italian women, the plus size clothing on offer isn’t stylish at all, but shopping in the UK has taught me this doesn’t have to be the case.  I make a point to take the best of each culture, so here are my tips for fashionable summer wear,  hope you like the outfits !

Italy has warm weather in Spring and Summer, so I like light fabrics and colours during thess seasons.   Shorts are a popular look in Italy right now which is why I love these indigo denim shorts.

To perfect the look, I would wear them with this floral embroidered gypsy top and complete the outfit with some classic accessories such as tan block heel sandals and a  mini barrel cross body bag

For a smarter look, I would choose a dress, like this lovely floral prom dress. I would wear this with some simple accessories such as camel heeled clog style courts and a turquoise stone cuff bracelet for a more summery touch. And there you have a beautiful cocktail outfit!

These are only a few of the inspiring items you can find at Evans, and I am so glad the brand has now an online store, so that I can order from them whenever I like . . . even from Italy!

Lace Looks from Anjula . . .

1:25 PM

From Dolce & Gabbana to Alberta Ferretti, designers are making delicate, romantic lacy layers a hit this summer!  Tons of lace dresses and lace skirts were seen on designer runways in different color palettes and styles.  Although lace has made a powerful comeback for the summer, it is a material that comes on and off the runway.  It’s important to purchase classic lace pieces that can be worn without looking dated . . .

You can also purchase pieces that have a hint of lace that adds a feminine feel like the Coral kimono lace detail top.  This piece can be worn season after season without ever looking outdated.  It is flattering for those who may not want to show their upper arm, but who still want to stay cool and breezy.  Use the waist tie to accentuate the waistline and to add shape to the torso.  Pair this top with a pair of jeans and heeled sandals for a dressy look.

For evenings and more formal occasions, add a crisp wide leg trouser and a pair of heels. Lace should fall nicely over curvy figures and flatter your curves, so avoid starchy stiff lace.  Instead, go for narrower lace fabrics with more flow to add a romantic and feminine feel to your look!  Items such as floor-length semi-sheer dresses and skirts like the blue print and lace skirt give you that romantic summer look, while keeping you comfortable and cool.  For a more dramatic look, pair this skirt with loose, effortless hair and chunky bangles.  Have fun with all the lace options available this summer . . .

The Midas Touch . . .

4:04 PM

Want to look bronzed and beautiful this summer? Gold is the way to lift the colour of your skin and add a touch of luxury to your wardrobe, without breaking the bank.

More practical to wear than white, gold keeps it’s colour no matter how much you wash it so it lasts for ages. Talk about value per wear!

Ideally suited to a summer garden party or night out, you look like you’ve made an effort when you’re wearing gold tunics and dresses. But you could wear a gold dress with sandals for a daytime event like a wedding or a picnic for a look with the wow factor.

If you’re not ready for gold clothing then jewellery can be worn with any outfit to add some summertime brightness and glamour. The metal swirl ring is now just £2 and you can get an armful of bangles for £7.50

Finish with some gold gladiator sandals that go with everything from jeans, maxi skirts or shorts. Gorgeous!

Have you treated yourself to any gold clothing or accessories this season?

Blogger Nefferth shows us how to wear chinos . . .

12:18 PM

There is a reason why we make a list of our favourite top 100 songs. And there is a reason why the same songs keep popping up in these collective charts. They are considered classic and transcending the test of time. In this post I want to share with you a three way look with another classic:  the chino trousers.

First worn by US military soldiers at the end of the 19th century, chino trousers have come a long way. Frequently used in casual looks, the chinos comfortable appearance may seem hard to picture otherwise. Playing with different accessories, layers and colours, I’ve created three looks to spice up your chinos.

For the office

Keep your work attire clean, fresh and accessorise with colour to enhance your professional look.

For shopping

When I go shopping, I’m hopping from one store to another. So I need clothes and accessories that move. Wedges are the perfect alternative to heels, as they are steadier to walk on and don’t cause a problem of I need to run to get that bargain.

For a party

If there is one situation where I think you can go all out with accessories, then it would be at a party. Evans holds a variety of colours and materials to cater to every taste. I chose to bling up my chinos! You want to be noticed at that lounge party, right? All you need now is a cosmopolitan and some great tunes.

How would you style your chinos?

Anjula and Shuchi’s catwalk watch: Wide Leg Trousers

12:58 PM

Hi,

This is Anjula and Shuchi and we are fashion stylists from Material Thangs Styling Group.  We are based in New York and are here to bring you some styling tips on how to recreate catwalk looks to best flatter your body shape!

Skinny bottoms have been a popular trend for many seasons now, but there was no denying the number of wide silhouettes gracing the 2011 summer runways!  For a pear-shaped figure, the super wide leg is a flattering choice.  Evans Blue Super Wide Leg Trouser is made of a soft jersey material that drapes over the hips in a way that will flatter your bottom.  There are no pockets or other details that add bulk to this wide cut, instead Evans have added a v-shaped waist band that smoothes out and flatters the stomach area.  The super wide leg creates an a-shape silhouette for your body and will make your waist look smaller if worn with the right top.

To elongate your torso, pair the wide leg trouser with more fitted tops and avoid baggier cuts that will add volume to your figure.  Curvy fashionistas can tuck in their top and add a waist belt to highlight the narrowest area of the torso.  This will help add curve to the upper body, while conceal any problem areas that you may have on the bottom.  The wide leg trouser is a great piece to wear for hotter days, since they are loose and comfortable.  Picnics, barbeques and other casual occasions can always use a comfortable wide leg trouser.  For fancier occasions, use accessories and dressier tops to play up this trouser.  If the evening gets breezy, add a cardigan or jacket that extends to the mid-hip for the most flattering look.

How will you be wearing your wide leg trousers this season?

How to wear white . . . by Kellie B

6:55 PM

Hi,  I’m Kellie B from Fatshion Insider!   This week Wimbledon began and to celebrate here are my top tips on how to wear white and look great!

One of the best things about summer is wearing crisp white pieces. Here are a few of my choices for must have white in your wardrobe:

A white t-shirt . . .

No matter which shape you prefer, a white t-shirt is essential! Try mixing brights when wearing a simple white tank and jeans. The fuchsia sandal and cobalt bag work really well together. The bag mimics the blue in the denim so it doesn’t feel like it’s competing but still looks fantastic.

Another fun tip is to mix tonal colors, try the neutral outfit with a white t-shirt, brown harem pants and tan accessories. This outfit has depth giving it an ease. Very stylish without showing too much skin.

The white dress . . .

Another key must have for this season is a white dress. I love the idea of simple yet chic printed white dresses. These classic stripes and polka dot dresses when mixed with unexpected accessories really stand out. I think that mixing black and brown is really cool, it looks very polished and still edgy. I also love the idea of a red shoe with a polka dot dress.

The white pair of trousers . . .

White trousers are simply fabulous. A great way to wear white pants is to pair them with bright colors. The floral kimono top below really adds to the luxe look. Add a bright colored bag and you’re off and running.

Wearing all white can seem daunting but it’s really quite simple. It’s all about the shapes. Structured weighted pants and a flowy top create great lines. The black purse strap and silver accents on the top break up the white and add interest.
