Our exciting search for size 14+ models and the UK’s next plus size supermodel has come to an end and Evans, Style369.com, Models1 and Cosmopolitan are thrilled to announce the four gorgeous finalists. We had more than 1,000 entrants and we’ve chosen 4 women to represent the 4 body types at Evans: Hourglass, Pear, Busty and Apple.
Representing Pears is Jessica Anderson from London, Katy Syme from Milton Keynes is our Hourglass, for Busty we have Kate Eccles from Birmingham and Amarilys Hibon from London is representing Apples. Here’s a reminder of what our 4 winners have won:
Each model has been especially selected to represent the 4 different body shapes championed by us at Evans - Hourglass, Pear, Busty and Apple. We measured each potential model to calculate their shape, and you can work out your own shape by using our online shape calculator.
This weekend is your last chance to enter the Evans, Style369.com and Models1 competition to become the UK’s next plus size super model. We’ve been all over the country looking for the best new model talent in our Size 14+ Model Search, and this weekend it comes to a close at the Evans stores in Bluewater on the 26th November between 12pm-4pm and Westfield White City on the 27th November between 1pm-6pm. So pop in and meet our model scouts.
We’ve had almost 1,000 people enter in-store and online, but there’s still time to enter if you think you have what it takes. If you can’t make it into store this weekend, why not enter online? The deadline for online applications is midnight on the 27th November, and you can enter here.
The lucky winner chosen by our judging panel will win:
If you want to view who has entered so far and check out the competition or see if you can spot a possible winner, you can view the gallery of entrants (both online and in-store entrants).
P.s. Don’t forget you can still get up to 30% off online and in-store at Evans - but be quick, things are selling fast!
Serena Jacobs is the gorgeous runner-up of the Evans-sponsored Plus Size Tall Model competition. For the Evans Winter 2011 Catalogue we grilled Serena on her best style tips, fashion advice and how to be comfortable and confident with your shape and everything you wear.
Would you say you are a confident dresser?
I’m getting more confident. I’ve always been taller and slightly bigger so I’ve not wanted to attract attention to myself, but as I’ve got older my confidence has matured. If I look in the mirror as I leave the house and I look good, then I’ve to believe that I do look good.
Who are your style icons? Why?
One of my best friends is a style icon for me as she just throws together outfits that I just wouldn’t even think of. When we go shopping she’ll pull things of the rack and tell me to try it on and I’ll look at it thinking, ‘I can’t wear that!’ but once I’ve got it on, I’m like, ‘Wow’. She has a very good eye for detail.
Where do you find style inspiration?
I like to look through magazines, you know, flick through at the doctors or dentist surgery. Obviously I know that not everything will suit me but I like to mix and match trends so I might pinch an idea for a top from somewhere then put it together with something myself. I also take inspiration from music videos too as they throw ideas out there that I would never think of.
Are you more of a trip to the high street or shop online at home girl?
I’m a shop online at home kinda girl! Otherwise I will go into a shop and get lots of different things that I’ve got to try on then take it home and may return and refund if necessary. At least if you’re at home you can try it on in the comfort of your own home. I can also mix it with my own clothes. If you’re on the high street and you try on a top that doesn’t go with the trousers you’re wearing then you have to decide, am I going to risk buying it? But if you’re at home you can you can try it on with a skirt, leggings, jeans, anything.
Do you follow any magazines or blogs?
A couple of my friends have just started writing fashion blogs which I’m keeping a close eye on because they are my friends but also because they are very up to date with fashion and what’s in style. Magazines, I don’t really buy. I do look through Vogue and Empire for the editorial spreads though.
If you could give one piece of style advice to women, what would it be?
Be comfortable. Don’t try and dress to impress someone else or because you saw an item on the TV or in a magazine. You need to look in the mirror before you leave the house and if you’re not comfortable then you’re not going to be confident which means you’ll be self-conscious so just be yourself.
What is your favourite fashion piece?
I have two. One is a white shirt dress. It’s quite casual with three quarter length sleeves that come down to full length and you can dress it up. I’ve worn it with pumps and leggings as a casual top but I’ve also put it with boots, tights and a belt and been able to wear it out of an evening. It’s a great piece to have the accessories in your bag and go from day to night with ease. The second piece is a pair of heels that I paid rather a lot for and I only wear on special occasions otherwise they sit in the box so I can admire how pretty they are.
Are there any beauty secrets you can share with us?
One rule that my mum told me, less is more! You should make a statement with either eye shadow, your lips or your complexion; not all at once as it can be too much.
What is your must-have item this winter?
I will definitely be buying an Evans duffle coat this year. I’ve wanted one for years but I’ve never found one that suited me. I either get it too short in the arms or it doesn’t fit on the body. I love the Evans camel duffle coat with the fur-trim hood.
What do you like about Evans?
I love Evans boots. Buying boots is so hard when you have any sort of calf muscle, so I love Evans’ wider fit. Whenever I need boots, Evans is always the place I go to first.

Last weekend Evans packed up and headed to Liverpool to continue our hunt for the next plus size supermodel with our Size 14+ Model Search 2011 and to take part in Liverpool Fashion Week.
On Thursday night we showcased our Evans Autumn/Winter collection at Liverpool Fashion Week, with 12 incredible plus size models strutting their stuff on the catwalk at chic Newzbar. The models were all ages, heights and sizes and showed perfectly styled and put together looks from Evans. Not to be outdone, the audience was also looking great with some very stylish people in attendance. The Evans black skater dress (above) was a big hit, and it’s easy to see why! To view all the pictures from the Liverpool Fashion Week and to shop the looks, head over to the Evans facebook page.
We were back in Liverpool city centre on Saturday when we had the Models1 scouts in-store at Evans, on hand to help us search for our size 14+ models. The model search moves to Gateshead Metro Centre this Saturday 29th October, so come and chat to our model scouts between 11am-3pm. If you can’t make it to store, why not enter online - you never know, you could be one of our winners.

Do you have an Autumn shopping list yet?
My name is Marged, and I am the blogger behind the plus size fashion blog La Diva delle Curve . I am a half Italian and a half British and live in Italy and, as all Italians, have a weekness for style and fashion!
My blog was meant to be in Italian as it is one of the few plus size fashion blogs in Italy, but I have decided to make it a bilingual resource adding English as many of the places that I shop are in the UK.
I love shopping at Evans because I love the stylish and flattering designs. I recieve great feedback from my readers about the outfits I wear and many thank me for showing them styles that are a bit different!
For most Italian women, the plus size clothing on offer isn’t stylish at all, but shopping in the UK has taught me this doesn’t have to be the case. I make a point to take the best of each culture, so here are my tips for fashionable summer wear, hope you like the outfits !
Italy has warm weather in Spring and Summer, so I like light fabrics and colours during thess seasons. Shorts are a popular look in Italy right now which is why I love these indigo denim shorts.
To perfect the look, I would wear them with this floral embroidered gypsy top and complete the outfit with some classic accessories such as tan block heel sandals and a mini barrel cross body bag
For a smarter look, I would choose a dress, like this lovely floral prom dress. I would wear this with some simple accessories such as camel heeled clog style courts and a turquoise stone cuff bracelet for a more summery touch. And there you have a beautiful cocktail outfit!
These are only a few of the inspiring items you can find at Evans, and I am so glad the brand has now an online store, so that I can order from them whenever I like . . . even from Italy!
There’s a new campaign group called Models of Diversity to encourage the fashion industry to use more diverse women in TV and magazine adverts. How fabulous! Evans met one of the plus size models, Kate Blackett, to find out how she got involved and what’s coming up next.
Age: 25
Job: Plus Size Model
Describe yourself in 3 words . . .
Curvy, bubbly and creative.
Tell us a bit about yourself?
I trained as a make up artist and then moved to New Zealand for a while. Then I decided to come back to the UK and become a plus size model and got involved in models of diversity campaign.
What’s Model’s of diversity about?
It’s a non-profit organisation we are campaigning for more diversity across models in the fashion industry, magazines and TV. I’ve been involved for the past 6 months and I’ve met some great people, it’s something I’m very passionate about.
When’s the next Models Of Diversity event?
We’re planning a Plus Size Fashion Show for our next major event this summer – very excited, can’t wait!
What’s the best thing about being a plus size model?
I love that I’ve been able to make a modelling career from my curves.
What are you’re plans for the summer?
This summer I’m heading to Ibiza mainly for work, but I’m really looking forward to it.
What item can’t you live without on holiday?
Can I have two?! I love salt spray to achieve the tousled beach hair look and a pair of cute wedges because they go with everything.
What are your favourite picks from evans?
I love the shoes, you have such a great variety and the fit is perfect for me. The spot espadrilles are my favourite . . .
If you thought evans model Marquita Pring looked like a cool chick then we have video evidence to prove it. Check out the interview evans filmed with her on set of our recent Barbados swimwear shoot to see a woman who’s confident in her skin and loving her life.
Marquita is making a splash in the stunning swimwear she models for evans in this shoot and she’s so in demand, she’s got brands like Levi’s fighting over her.
The curvy model is also a hit with the couture fashion designers and recently made fashion history when Jean Paul Gaultier picked her for his Spring 2011 runway. It’s a miracle she remains so down to earth despite the demand surrounding her.
In our exclusive video, Marquita talks us through some of the highlights of her five year modelling career, which includes several shoots she’s done for evans, of course.
And then she shares her top tips about what she likes from evans summer clothing range and evans holiday shop. We recommend watching the video to see what supermodels take on holiday.
Do you agree with Marquita’s picks? Let us know what’s on your packing list!
