A day at the races is a pretty big event in the summer calendar not least because working out your race day outfit is very exciting. There’s nothing quite like knowing you can adorn yourself in head-to-toe glamour without looking too overdressed. So, what options should you be considering for this momentous of fashion occasions?
Nothing speaks classic femininity quite like a dress. Floor-sweeping maxi dresses are a great start but make sure they come in a statement print to give them that wow factor. Bold florals work everytime!
A ‘50s-inspired prom dress is a flattering pick, like the two prom dresses modelled by our lovely Evans fit model, will really make the most of your curves. If you do go for one of the nipped-in waist styles then partner it with a bolero cardigan or jacket. They’re great for keeping warm and giving a stylish bit of coverage.
For ultra sophistication and style appeal, then a dress from our Clements Ribeiro Swan collection is a fabulous choice. Defined by quirky, conversational prints the dresses are designed exclusively for the fuller figured female. You’re bound to feel a million dollars wearing one of these luxurious pieces.
If you’re going to be out and about all day then getting your accessories right is a must. A bag that’s big enough for all your essentials but not too cumbersome when you’re walking through the crowds is important. And so is a pair of ladylike and comfortable shoes. Fortunately heels and flats work well on this most special of occasions.
Now you’ve picked your perfect outfit, let’s hope you can pick a winner!

How would you describe your style?
Trendy but individual, I buy what I like not necessarily what is in fashion.
Would you say you are a confident dresser?
Yes, definitely. Even though I am a plus size I love wearing vibrant colours and prints!
What body shape are you and how do you dress for your shape?
I am a PEAR shape, so I tend to choose clothing that will disguise my curvier hips and thighs but will also show off my smaller waist.
Who are your style icons? Why?
I like a lot of vintage fashion, but wouldn’t say I had one particular icon. I like to try to incorporate aspects of these looks into everyday fashion.
Where do you find your style inspiration?
I find inspiration from high street stores and also vintage fashion eras like the 1920′s.
Are you more of a trip to the high street or a shop online at home girl?
When it comes to buying clothes I prefer to go to the high street to see the clothes for real an try them on. However, I do buy a lot of accessories online, and find that internet sites provide a more eclectic choice.
Do you follow any magazines or blogs?
I prefer not to be told what to wear and favour looking at what the high street have on offer and picking items that flatter my body shape and suit my personality.
If you could give ones piece of style advice to women, what would it be?
I would advise them to go into an Evans store and find out their shape and start shopping for it, it really does make a difference to your wardrobe and confidence.
What is your favourite fashion piece?
At the minute I am really into fur collars which really jazz up jackets and shirts.
Are there any beauty secrets you can share with us?
Always remove your make up before bed and cleanse, keeps your skin blemish free.
What is your must have item from Evans this season?
I really love my love heart Clements Ribeiro blouse, it’s so easy to wear and looks great with a pair of skinny jeans.
What is your role at Evans?
My role at Evans is delivering great style advice and unique customer service.

Finding a pair of jeans that fit like a glove, look great and give you confidence is at the top of everyone’s wardrobe wishlist. We know how tricky it can be to find a pair you love and which loves your shape too, so we want to make sure you have lots of choice when it comes to finding your perfect pair.
Whether you like elegant straight cut, which will work for work and play, the always-flattering bootcut, a classic that works for daytime chic, or our new cut to fit range of jeans, especially made to fit and flatter pear shapes, we’ve got the jeans for you at Evans.co.uk.
Bootcut jeans work well on all body shapes to balance your shape and can be dressed up or dressed down. Straight leg jeans can help to accentuate the lower half on apple or busty shapes, and will elongate your whole look, but all body shapes can wear either style with the correct styling and fit.
Our new Pear Cut jeans take the difficulty out of buying jeans for a pear shape, as the smaller and higher cut waist will sit perfectly and make even mean you drop a dress size. Many pear shapes think that trousers and jeans won’t work or fit their shape, but these jeans will make you change your mind, so take a chance and try jeans that will work for you.
There’s currently also a special offer on certain jeans, where you can get two pairs of jeans for a bargain £35.
We all want our wardrobes to work a little harder, so we’re bringing you 4 ways to wear one key piece. This week we’re looking how to style the maxi dress. Here’s how to take one great dress and turn it into 4 different looks, for lots of occasions.
A key wardrobe staple, like a maxi dress, is so versatile and will become your new best friend and a hard working piece of your summer wardrobe. Change the look from day to night, bright and bold to muted and classic or smart to casual, with clever accessories, shoes and even your lingerie.
Look 1: Add a white bolero, wedge sandals and a statement cuff bracelet to create a stylish, day to night look. Perfect for the office or even the bar. Emphasis and define your cleavage with your lingerie for added oomph.
Look 2: Cinch in your waist with a thick belt and add sparkle and a cover up to make sure your maxi look party-ready. From a night in the pub to date night, this look will make you feel great.
Look 3: Go laid back and relaxed with casual, nude toned sandals and a comfy waterfall cardigan. This look would work just as well for the school run as it would for a family dinner out.
Look 4: Be bold and add a splash of colour to the tribal print maxi dress with coral jewellery and sandals. By teaming this with a white cardigan, this look just shouts ‘Spring’!
The debut Clements Ribeiro collection for Evans, ‘Swan‘, launched last week after creating a fantastic buzz in the plus size world and the fashion press. The innovative designer and high street collaboration was the first of it’s kind for plus size, and offered affordable designer pieces up to a size 32.
We were thrilled how people have responded to the collection, with the rich prints, vintage shapes, quality fabrics and attention to detail. But don’t just take our word for it. Here are the reviews from Evans customers who have tried and tested Clements Ribeiro for Evans.
Lovely quality.Am more than happy to pay the slightly higher price for this range as the quality of the fabric justifies the price. Have had numerous compliments already on this top. I think the sizing is on the large side so maybe order one size smaller than usual.
Angelabdc, GlasgowI knew that I wanted to try something from the Swan range and I really liked this dress though it is well outside my comfort zone of dark colours and tunic shapes. I am a size 22 hourglass shape and 5ft 4.The cut is fantastic: slightly high waist which gives me a great shape without constricting and the sleeves do not twist or pinch. It is a bit on the long side hitting about 4′ below my knees. I love this range and think its wonderful to have such a bold designer collaboration with Evans. Will order more from future collections.
Have you bought anything from the Clements Ribeiro for Evans collection? We’d love to hear your feedback too, so leave us a comment.
