Your Guide to Getting Dressed on the Go

Your Guide to Getting Dressed on the Go

With the hustle bustle of the holiday season officially upon us, and our already hectic schedules being even more jam packed with days and nights full of celebration and festivities, it is essential to have a figure-flattering wardrobe that is fun, festive and full of sparkle and shine that you can put together on the go for any occasion.

Whether you are heading to an office party, meeting the girls for drinks, going on a date, decorating the house, holiday shopping, or traveling to be with family and friends, putting outfits together should be easy and effortless without compromising the glamour and detail that we all love.

Getting dressed on the go can be simple as long as you are prepared with a closet full of versatile go-to items that are best for your body type and represent your personal style, that you can mix and match with the season’s greatest trend pieces and statement accessories to create quick, easy to wear ensembles that are appropriate for the season.

Dresses are a serious no brainer for creating a festive look on the run, and in the colder months, there are lots of great ways to make them work in order to stay warm. Choose a dress with embellishment and/or a saturated jewel tone color, pair it with a great textured tight, a tall pair of boots or heels, and warm coat, and you are out the door looking fabulous.

The little black dress (LBD) is an essential staple piece that is a great option for any occasion of celebrating. Every woman should have AT LEAST one great fitting and figure-flattering LBD that you can pull out in a cinch. Choose a LBD that has a splash of interesting detail but is still versatile and can be styled to cater to a specific occasion.

Maxi dresses are another great option for the season that can be worn with ease for several different occasions. Pair an embellished maxi dress with a great pair of heels, faux fur jacket and some great statement accessories, and that’s all you need to look your best.

One-piece jumpers are probably the easiest item to wear for the season. They are appropriate for several occasions of celebrating and they will keep you warm. Pair a jumper with beautiful accessories, and a hot pair of heels and you cannot go wrong. Also, make sure you are wearing the proper undergarments the proper undergarments.

I highly recommend wearing waist to ankle shape wear underneath a jumper to create a smooth silhouette and add extra warmth. Adding a shawl or faux fur vest is also a great way to create a super festive ensemble that will look glamorous and keep you warm.

Tunic/Vests and leggings:

Tunics/vests or long-line tops and leggings are my absolute favorite go-to items for the season.

My favorite way to wear these versatile tops is with a pair of sleek dark denim and a pair of tall boots, and a faux leather blazer.

To create a dresser ensemble with a tunic/vest, choose a pair of dark leggings or jeggings, add a belt, and grab a pair of heels and switch up your accessories to add a little more bling.

Accessories and other details- never underestimate the power of accessorizing, especially when you have limited time to get ready. Hats, gloves, scarves, shawls, and jewelry are all simple items that you can add to your ensemble to create more polish, sparkle, and texture, and give a drab ensemble that little something extra it needs to help you look polished.  You can use accessories to turn an outfit from day to night, or to simply add a bit of bling for a more festive ensemble. If you are going straight from the office to a party, changing your accessories, hair and makeup can give you a completely different look and you can easily throw these items in your purse when you are on your way out the door.

When you look great, you feel great, and as long as you use these tools to put together you looks, you can take a deep breath, enjoy the season and focus your energy on what is truly important without getting bogged down in the unnecessary drama that comes with the question What am I going to wear. Happy holidays and happy shopping!

Trends for the holidays

5:44 PM

This blog posts has been written by New York based Plus Size Fashion Stylists Anjula and Shuchi Sharma of Material Thangs Styling Group Inc. who also contribute to PLUS Model Magazine.

‘Tis the season to be  glamorous!  The holiday season is a great occasion to add some glitz and glam to your wardrobe.  From sequins to velvet, there are so many fabric and clothing options to make a statement for any holiday event.  For a curvy fashionista to look her best, it is important to not shine as bright as your Christmas tree, but instead to add the perfect punch of holiday zest to your looks.  Look picture perfect this holiday season, as Evans has all the latest holiday trends!

Sequins are a staple when it comes to adding the perfect shimmer and shine to your look during the holidays.  Just like other flashy holiday fabrics, sequins can be overbearing and should be worn in a way that it doesn’t clash with other pieces of your outfit.  The sasperilla sequin dress featured below is a great example of adding splashes of sequin to give you a polished, yet stand-out look.  The hint of sequin on the asymmetrical shoulder and over the bust draws the eye to the upper torso.  This is great for pear-shaped women who may want to take the focus off of their lower body.  Don’t forget to use jewellery to complement and lightly accessorize your sequin look for all of your holiday festivities.
Sequined accessories are eye-catching and are perfect for adding just a splash of shimmer.  They can be incorporated into a number of outfits, for both day and night.  The sequin clip top purse, for example, can jazz up any basic look by giving it a pop.  It can also complement a neutral or light-toned outfit very well.  Similarly, our sequin cuff sandal is great for the evening, as it adds life to any boring or solid-colored outfit.  For a more comfortable option, try our pewter sequin ballerinas.  Wear this flat with tights and a bright colored tank for a casual daytime look or throw on a blazer to take your look from day to night.  Sequined accessories can be mix and matched with your outfits to make you sparkle like a star this holiday season!

There is no denying that velvet can look outdated and unflattering.  It can be a tricky fabric to wear, as its texture and thickness can add bulk to a curvy figure.  However, velvet has made a powerful comeback this holiday season and has been seen in many modern cuts and designs.  The Lovedrobe devore velvet dress, shown below, uses velvet in a very trendy way.  This dress in an ideal choice for women with a pear shape, as it drapes beautifully on the lower body.
We all know that heavy holiday meals call for stretch and comfort.  A trendy yet giving holiday item is Evans’ crushed velvet maxi skirt.  The crushed velvet texture gives the skirt a cool effect, while the nature of the fabric is great for staying warm.  Pair it with a casual top or a fancy blouse, depending on if you to play this piece up or down.  You can wear it with heels or flats, making it a very versatile piece.
The black velvet bolero is a chic item to add to your outfit, if you don’t feel comfortable going completely bare on the shoulder and arms.  It can dress up and complement so many different sleevless options, making it a must-have for the season.

Lace is perfect for giving you a classy yet sexy look for the holidays. It is a great fabric choice, as you can use it to conceal what you don’t want to reveal without looking too covered up. You can use Evans’ grey all over lace vest to show hints of skin, depending on what you layer it with underneath. The lace that drapes over the sides of the hips is very flattering for any pear-shaped woman. Wear it with slacks for a casual feel or with a nice skirt for a night on the town.
The frill vest with lace yolk featured below is a fashionable option, as the lace frills adds a youthful element. From gloves to skirts, there are endless options when it comes to lace. Mix and match this fun and flirty fabric to create the perfect holiday look for you!
Animal Print

After being featured on many designer runways for the Fall/Winter season, animal prints have crawled their way into the holiday season as well. Animal prints are a great option for curvy women but can be tricky to wear. Make sure to use this print in a manner that flatters you, instead of it being distracting to the eye. This type of busy print looks the best when it is used as the single statement piece of your outfit. For instance, if you wear Studio NY’s leopard shift dress, tone down the rest of your outfit by pairing it with solid-colored tights and light jewelry. This dress is form-fitting with full sleeves, giving it a youthful and fashionable feel.
Evan’s has done a great job at mixing an animal print with sequin with their jewelled neck animal top, without it clashing or being over-the-top. This piece is less form-fitting, as the fabric is giving around the stomach and hip area. Also, the sheer, ¾ balloon-sleeves are great for women who want to flatter their upper arms. Remember that animal prints are ageless and will help add some heat to the cold winter weather!

Enjoy!’s Model Competition

11:37 AM

We caught up with Thibault Masson, who created Plus-Size-Tall a year ago with an aim to encourage all initiatives making plus size fashion more visible – not only for plus size women but also for tall women and big and tall men.  Here she explains more about their hunt to find the next plus-size model.

Tell us about

We have created a plus size community where people can keep up to date with plus size news, buy clothes, swap clothes and ideas, and share their own styles. As well as this online activity, we also wish to take action via real life events such as the Plus Size Modelling Competition.

Can you tell us more about the plus-size model competition? has chosen to partner with the American event The Curvy Revolution, which is the biggest plus size event in the world. We will be searching for the UK’s Plus Size model. Participants can send their photos in to the Plus-Size-Tall Community and then it is down to the other members to vote and decide who their favourite model is! The winning model will then be picked by our professional jury and sent to Las Vegas in February 2011 to hit the catwalk at The Curvy Revolution.

Why should people enter the competition?

This competition is the chance to go to Las Vegas to catwalk amongst the pros! This is a one-of-a kind opportunity, endorsed by the top British clothing brand Evans. The same event was a great success in France where the girls and their audience had a great time modelling, voting and watching!

What prize will the winner receive?

Each finalist will get to select and keep their outfits each worth over £100, the two runners up will receive £250 of Evans vouchers, and the lucky winner will receive £500 worth of Evans clothing, a plane trip to Las Vegas and accommodation at the Las Vegas Planet Hollywood Hotel. She will also take part in the Curvy Revolution official fashion show, modelling on the catwalk amongst some of America’s leading plus size models.

Who are you favourite plus-size models?

Johanna Dray would be our favourite French model, and we are lucky to have her as our sponsor for We also admire all the beautiful participants we have had in our French model search, and all those getting ready to take part in our British one!

What is so great about plus-size fashion?

Plus Size is definitely on the move at the moment, especially with more and more interest from designers and celebrities like Beth Ditto who has had two collections at Evans. The fact that plus size fashion is more and more visible means that a lot of women no longer suffer from the frustration of not finding the clothes or information they are looking for. They have been heard and now have great pride in being who they are, and being beautiful!
