Just when you thought awards season was over for the year, celebrities were forced to get on their glad-rags again (oh the hardship), for the Cosmopolitan Women of the Year Awards.
The celeb filled event celebrated a host of talented and inspiring females including model Crystal Renn, who picked up her statue at the Cosmopolitan Ultimate Women of the Year awards. Crystal won in the ’ Ultimate Catwalk ’ category. She wore all black for the occasion, with a full, textured skirt.
The glamorous occasion saw a host of beautiful people take to the red carpet to showcase the best of British . . . and it made for a pretty impressive line-up. Other celebrities who took a gong home were singer Alexandra Burke, actress Karen Gillan, British athlete Jessica Ennis, theatre performer Sheridan Smith and Girls Aloud star Nicola Roberts.
The last day of Sonsi Full Figured Fashion Week was the day that everyone was waiting for: the Fashion Show Finale! With presentations from IGIGI by Yuliya Raquel, Forever 21+, Jill Alexander Designs, Lane Bryant, Sealed with a Kiss, Sonsi, Abundance Boutique, Sassi Rebel Clothing, Kiyonna, Chan.nel Karama, Hips & Curves, Youtheary Khmer, and Plush Boutique, the plus-size models looked stunning in the diverse styles and designs that came down the runway .
There was young and mature, contemporary and sophisticated, quirky, sexy, provocative, and demure . . . It all showed the beauty in difference and how much individuality exists within the plus-size world. The options for full figured women are expanding rapidly, as more businesses and designers open up their eyes to the curvy world.
Chan.nel Karama’s monochromatic, leather, and chain details were an absolute hit, and among the favorites in the show, as were the Moschino-inspired chain jackets and pieces produced by Sassi Rebel. A goal of Full Figured Fashion Week is also to highlight the talent of a new, up-and-coming young designer with each showcase, and this years talent, Theary Sim of Youtheary Khmer did not disappoint. Sim used her design and modeling savvy to create gorgeous pieces that strayed from the mainstream, and also celebrated her Cambodian heritage.
It was also refreshing to see major companies be part of an event with grassroots foundations; their presence gave proof that large companies and corporations are in touch and listening to their core consumers. . . and hopefully hearing that many curvy women are proud of their bodies and their shape, and want chic, stylish clothes to wear every day!
Overall, the finale was rightfully deserving of being the most anticipated event! It had all the attendees raving about the exciting new talent creating looks for the plus size world.
Here’s hoping that the next Full Figured Fashion Week is even bigger, and inspires more new talent to create even more show-stopping clothes!

At Day 2 of Sonsi Full Figured Fashion Week, there was a series of three panels that catered to plus-size businesses, models, bloggers, publicists, marketers, and consumers. The first panel, ‘The Plus Side of Business,’ was dedicated to a discussion about businesses that cater to the full-figured, curvy, and plus-size community. The discussion, largely attended by bloggers and business owners, quickly evolved into a conversation about social media and the best ways to use tools like facebook, twitter, or blogs to benefit your business or brand. At this panel, Yuliya Raquel was one of the crowd favorites; her business philosophy is so impassioned, and it’s obvious she truly cares about the curvy community and her customers.
The second panel, ‘New and Aspiring Models,’ offered advice and guidance for curvy girls who want to break-out into the Plus Model industry. Many of the attendees were going to catwalk in the Full Figured Fashion Week Fashion Show the following day! The panel was moderated by Sharon Quinn, former plus model and ‘Runway Diva.’ The experts at this discussion shared some of their own experiences and personal struggles in the modeling industry, but maintained that aspiring models, should modeling truly be their dream, should never give up on their desire to be in the industry.
The final panel of the day, ‘The State of the Curvy Community,’ The panelists included Runway Model Sharon Quinn, Reah Norman of Photo Stylist, Fashion Director of PLUS Model Magazine and Heinrich Saint-Germain of Judgment of Paris. When it came to the discussion, there was a wide range of opinions, and each panelist was incredibly opinionated and passionate about their stance. They covered a range of topics the general consensus, though, was that plus-size women deserve the same great fashion as everyone else, and the panelists reminded women that it’s not necessary for plus-size women to pay more for great fashion, either!
