If you like reality TV and you want to get a behind the scenes look at the fashion industry then you can’t beat the Next Top Model TV format. Evans model Toccara Jones found fame after appearing on America’s Next Top Model and series 10 of the same show had a gorgeous plus-size winner, Whitney Thompson.
We do hope there will be more curvy superstars like Whitney and Toccara in upcoming British episodes! Whitney always looks amazing at showbiz events in America. Check out a few of her best looks below . . .
As well as interviewing the lovely Marquita Pring at the Evans S/S 2011 photo shoot, I was also able to interview world-renowned make-up artist Kim Brown, and hairstylist Chi Wong about upcoming hair and beauty trends. Both were so warm & friendly and they were more than happy to answer my questions.
Kim’s S/S 2011 Beauty Predictions:
‘ This S/S 2011, we’re going to be seeing a lot of 70′s inspired looks, bold lips, bold eyes, bold cheeks etc. There will be a bold pop of colour this season, unlike last season, where it was all about the gold/bronze metallic shades. However, pastels will also be making a come back this season. On the runway, many models sported soft feminine looks with light shimmering shadows just on the inner corner of their eyes. So there will be two extremes this season, the extremely bold 70′s look in contrast to the soft pastels. ‘
Chi’s S/S 2011 Hair Predictions:
‘ This S/S 2011 is definitely inspired by the 60s, there will be a lot of Bridget Bardot inspired hair styles. The bouffant, the pixie cut as we’ve recently seen with Emma Watson, and the perky flirtatious ‘Barbie-esque’ ponytail as we’ve seen on the Louis Vutton runway, so there will be a wide variety of hairstyles, that have volume, that will be featured on the catwalk. Alexander Wang and Miu Miu have used 60′s inspired hairstyles in their spring collections, so this will be a popular trend this season. ‘
Super-stylish fashion blogger LaCara recently took a behind the scenes trip to our Spring 2011 shoot and had a catch up with beautiful model Marquita Pring . . .watch out for exclusive behind the scenes videos coming soon . . .
How did you break into the industry?
I was 15 when I entered the modelling industry, I was always told that I should model, and I thought I had to be skinny in order to do so, but my family and friends supported me, so I went for it. My Mum and I went to a model casting at the mall, and they liked my look and from that point I flew out to Toronto and originally signed up with ‘ Wilhemina Models ‘, but I’m now currently signed with ‘ Ford Models ‘.
Do you get treated differently from straight-sized models?
No, not from my experience. I’ve never had a problem on a shoot with a straight-sized model. I think that ‘ plus-size ‘ models are still a taboo, and they really don’t know how to take us because, the plus-size industry is booming, but to them it’s still a relatively new thing. So, no I wouldn’t say I get treated differently, it’s just that the fashion industry is still adjusting to plus-size models.
What’s the best thing about being a model?
Definitely, the travelling. I love to travel, and I get to see the world, while doing something that I love, so it’s a win/win situation.
What advice would you give to an aspiring model?
Pursue your dreams! If you want to model, pursue it vigorously and you’ll see the results. Make sure you do your research, and really put yourself out there, and of course good luck!
Can you share a tip on how to pose?
Be confident and just be yourself! If the photographer asks for something different, then try something different, and be creative. The most important thing, is to feel comfortable with yourself, that way your confidence will shine through, and you’ll be amazing in front of the camera.
Glee star Amber Riley looks stunning in this blue chiffon bandeau dress. If you’re planning on wearing a bandeau dress like Amber for your Christmas Party this year, then it’s important to wear a good bra and it can help you make the most of what you’ve got! The evans glamour multi-way bra is prettier than most shapewear with the rouched fabric and diamante design. The bra comes with detachable straps and is perfect for any occasion, giving great uplift and support.
Beth Ditto always looks beautiful, but even she could do with some support wearing this floral print pocket jersey dress. If you decide to opt for a fitted dress this season . . . the spanx high power pants are great for smoothing your tummy and thighs to give you confidence and the perfect curvy silhouette.
