Evans Loves Amber Riley and Glee

3:29 PM

One of our favourite stars of the moment is Amber Riley, currently starring as Mercedes in the US hit TV show Glee. It’s a brand new ‘comedy/drama/fabulous way to spend an hour’ show from Ryan Murphy (the guy who created Nip/Tuck starring the rather fanciable Julian McMahon), about a bunch of high school students aspiring to win a singing and dancing competition.

Mercedes always looks fab, both on and off screen…and we hear she is a fan of evans too!

We are also very excited about the coming release of the Glee: Road to Sectionals DVD which we hear is out on 12 April from our friends at Twentieth Century Fox Home Entertainment. Filled with all our much loved characters including Mercedes. When it arrives in a week and a bit, I’ll be happily singing along to versions of Queen’s “Somebody to Love,” and Rihanna’s “Take A Bow”. Hairbrush at the ready, can’t wait! Check out the trailer and exclusive promotion below to see exactly why we’re so excited:

In the mean time, enter our competition and you could be the lucky winner of a DVD or CD from the hit show.

The Finishing Touches

2:29 PM

Next time you’re filling your virtual basket with goodies, don’t forget those all-important accessories! I’m a big fan of statement jewellery, and browsing through Evans’ jewellery collection I stumbled across some real stand-out pieces like the chunky floral cocktail ring and the Alice in Wonderland-esque jewelled ‘clocket’ necklace.

An outfit’s not complete without a few bold accessories. Big sunnies, corsages, waist belts and bold bling are all perfect for jazzing up old favourites – here are some of my favourites.

Feather earrings £8 Butterfly collar necklace £10 Mega stone floral ring £15 Cream waisted belt £12 Brown Fiorelli sunglasses £25 Bow and charms clocket £16 Denim rose corsage £8 Frog and flower ring £15

Street Style: Layering

6:11 AM

This nearly but not quite Spring part of the year is just so awkward – how do we know what to wear? From rain to shine and back again in the space of a few short hours, we don’t know whether to wear jumpers and jackets or dresses and sandals sometimes!

We hit the streets of London to find style inspiration for this difficult transitional period. What did we find? Layers, layers, and more layers. Skirts, dresses and long tops are being worn over leggings and opaque tights, and cool socks are layered over leggings and under boots. We love the double jacket look – layering up leather and denim jackets is so on-trend and looks fabulous! Lightweight jackets layered over tops and dresses are finished off perfectly with scarves and gorgeous handbags. Layering is perfect for this time of year because you can take off or add layers as the weather gets better or worse.

To get the layering look, team long-line vests with cardigans and lightweight jackets and a cool scarf will complete the look perfectly. Evans also does a great range of two in one cardigans which are the perfect way to cheat your way to an on-trend layered look. Laugh in the face of silly weather with layering!

Evans Designers Head West

Our lovely designers here at Evans have sent us some photos to share with you from their recent trip to New York and LA in search of fabulous new trends.

These are the trips where both inspiration and samples are found which will form the foundation of our s/s 2011 range:

All Laced Up

3:25 PM

It was only a few days ago I was championing the lace blazer as one of Spring’s key looks, and no sooner have my ramblings gone live than Evans have added their lace blazer to the virtual racks for £35.

It’s definitely a marmite look, but expect to see plenty of these being worn in Spring as the perfect lightweight alternative to last year’s sequin blazer.

If you’re a slave to fashion you’ll recognise the Stella McCartney influence in the piece. But while her full-on lace jumpsuit might be difficult to wear in real life, a blazer like this is really easy to incorporate into your wardrobe. Just throw it on with a vest and jeans and you’re set. A ribbon belt or big chunky necklace would finish the look a treat!

Spring Handbags

8:19 AM

We’ve just had our first look at some of our new Spring handbags and we seriously like what we see! They’re gorgeous, super-soft to the touch and come in beautiful dusty pink, dove-grey and stone shades.

There’s the vintage-style stone-coloured clutch with glamorous gold edging, the pale pink bag with quilting detail and silver hardware, and the larger dove-grey shoulder bag with pretty ruching. We love that the larger bags have extra long handles for comfort, and the clutch has a detachable strap so we have the choice of carrying or wearing it.

These bags are absolutely perfect for Spring – keep an eye out instore and online for these as they won’t be hanging around for long!

Matte About You

12:42 PM

I wasn’t sure how long the matte nail polish trend would stick around, and whether it would translate well with Spring colours. As it turns out, it’s still going strong, even with the neutral tones that are in this season. However, as a lover of all things shiny, I don’t think I’ll ever completely give up the high-gloss polish. If you’re like me and you want the best of both worlds, you don’t have to invest in a full bottle of the matte stuff in every colour; instead just grab a finisher like this one by Essie! Use it as a top coat on any polish you already have, and it takes away the shine.
